Frequently Asked Questions.

What is the difference between a cash bond and a surety bond?

A cash bond generally requires the full bond amount to be paid directly to the court. If the defendant appears for all required court dates and the case is fully resolved, that money is typically returned by the court, subject to the court’s process and any applicable fees or conditions.

A surety bond allows a licensed bail bond company to post the bond on the defendant’s behalf. In North Carolina, the premium for a surety bond may be up to 15% of the bond amount, and that premium is not refundable at the conclusion of the case.
